Color is Life

Imagine your whole world being drained of color. Everything in black & white. That’s what’s happened in Gaza.

Even the beautiful blue sky is obscured by clouds of debris and smoke. Piles of grey concrete rubble everywhere. No more trees and plants. No more warm home interiors with curtains and rugs and furniture. Just black and white everywhere you look.

This is why it was so important to GGM to create a space for the children that was as vibrant and as colorful as possible.

The classroom in the original 1st tent (there are 2 now!!) was the beginning. Colorful books and supplies, posters and decorations made the tent seem almost technicolor compared to the surroundings of destroyed and burned out buildings.

But GGM really outdid itself when building the playground tent (attached to the Education tent.)

With the red roof and the green floor and colorful play equipment, the tent is an oasis of color, like a giant flower, a place to rest the eyes and feel like a kid.

This new addition was just finished in the past week and despite the hardships of getting any supplies and equipment, it’s a wonder for the children who are drawn to it like a magnet. Once things in Gaza normalise a bit, there will be more additions, more equipment, more color.

It’s so easy to take for granted something like the color green. But when its gone you miss it terribly. The people who do this work for the children understand. It’s so important for their healing. Children need to know there are adults who care and are looking after all their needs.

There are so many needs right now. Desperate needs for food, shelter, sanitation, and so many other things. GGM works tirelessly to meet those needs as best as possible, but also took the time to understand the need for something as simple as the importance color in their lives.

The children have responded so enthusiastically to this environment, this little island of love and caring. When they see adults doing this work for them it gives them hope and confidence. They know they matter.

Every.single.one of.them.
