How & When did Gaza Great Minds start?

Gaza Great Minds started as a dream.
A group of teachers wanted to reignite education after their educational center had been bombed and demolished. They funded the setup of a tent to provide free education to 50 students. They called the tent “Tent Without Borders.” They aimed to start operating on May 14, 2024.

On 07.05.2024 the Project Manager Mr. Ahmed; from Gaza, met with a group of activists; from around the world, on X spaces (formally known as Twitter) and they agreed to advocate for the school project to help with awareness and funding.

A group was created by Nadia under the name of Growing Great Minds.
The group went through different obstacles and challenges until they settled under the name of Gaza Great Minds on May 17, 2024

What types of educational support programs does Gaza Great Minds offer?

Gaza Great Minds offers a range of educational support programs to children in Gaza affected by war. This includes safe tent classrooms, tutoring services, and mentorship programs. We believe that education fosters resilience and hope, and we are committed to providing quality education for all.

How does Gaza’s Great Minds address social challenges?

What psychological services does Gaza Great Minds provide?

Gaza Great Minds provides essential psychological services to children affected by war. This includes counseling sessions, trauma-informed care, and mental health workshops. Our goal is to ensure that every child has access to the psychological support they need to heal and thrive.

Gaza Great Minds empowers young minds by providing the necessary tools and resources for them to thrive. This includes skills development programs, educational workshops, and creative outlets. We believe in fostering resilience, joy, and hope to help children build a brighter future.

How are the donations spent?

Donations are fully spent with the children’s health, safety, and well-being at the forefront.
Each tent requires £10,000 to operate, the money is spent as follows:
• Educational resources (Stationary, books, posters, art supplies, etc…)
• Daily meal for children
• Humble teacher’s wages
• Tent and equipment (Furniture, solar panels, projector, sports equipment, etc…)
• Recreational activities (Mascots, decorations, fun bags etc…)

Are there any plans to expand this project?

Certainly, we are aiming to continue post-war, meanwhile, we are aiming to expand to different areas within Gaza to reach as many deprived children as possible. As of writing, we have 2 tents operating with over 400 students registered.

What is the atmosphere like in the tent?

GGM tents have become a family in and out of the tent. The children always refer to the teachers with “Uncle” or “Aunty” which is commonly used in the Arabic World for family friends or elder family members. Some of the children refer to the teachers as “Dad” or “Mum” as they lost their parents. The teachers view the children as their own.

How many teachers are there? What are their Qualifications?

• All our teachers are qualified and certified by the Ministry of Education in Gaza • Each tent has a team of 7 to 8 staff.
• Each team is comprised of 1 Tent manager, an Arabic teacher, an English teacher, a Mathematics teacher, a Psychotherapist to limit and treat the ongoing traumatic disorder, and 2 or 3 teacher assistants and Admin staff.

Are people working on this project paid?

Only staff in Gaza get paid.
All team members outside of Gaza are non-paid volunteers.

What is the average wage of teaching staff in Gaza?

• Wages range from $300 to $400 per month
• They didn’t ask for wages at the start, but we want to provide the bare minimum to keep them focused on teaching.
• Teachers in Gaza are putting their lives on the line by standing in the tent amidst the ongoing genocide, up to 8 hours daily, 6 days a week.

What is the age range of the students?

We currently cater for two age groups:
• Ages 4 years old to 8 years old.
• Ages 9 years old to 13 years old.

How much do the children pay to gain access to GGM services?

Nothing! All GGM activities are provided free of charge to the children of Gaza.

How much of the donations are kept outside Gaza?

Nothing, all donations are sent in full to Gaza. (Less any transfer-associated fees charged by payment platforms like PayPal)

What are platform fees?

• All payment platforms charge a nominal fee to process your generous donations.
• GGM has no control over these fees but understands and is grateful for the excellent service they provide making money transfers and currency conversions easy, reliable, and fast so we can get the money to where it is needed without much delay.

Can I set up a Direct Debit?

• Yes, there are two options:

• Yes, we use PayPal and Stripe payment processing provided which are registered and insured globally.

Do you accept Crypto?

Yes, please choose your desired network & currency from any of the crypto addresses listed on the donation page on this website and/or social media accounts.

What is your preferred method of receiving donations?

We prefer Crypto as it is direct and incurs no fees, and we would love the Gazans to benefit from your full donation.

Can I cancel a subscription?

• Yes, please visit your payment processor (e.g. Apple Pay, Google pay, Paypal, etc…)
• If you have subscribed through BMC, please log into your account and go to the active memberships tab.

Do you offer refunds?

You can email us within 28 days of us receiving your payment with the reason for cancellation and we will process a refund ASAP.

How can I keep updated on the progress of GGM?

• You can follow our social media accounts to keep updated.
• Visit our website daily for continuous updates and exclusive blogs written by students, teachers, and community members from Gaza directly.

What languages do you use to communicate on Xspaces & Tiktok Lives?

• We speak mainly in English with Live translation into Arabic and vice versa.
• Sometimes members of the community offer translation into other languages such as French, Spanish, and Russian but it depends on available members being present.

What happens on Xspaces?

• Spaces are used to bring together the community of supporters to hear directly from people on the ground in Gaza who are doing the work of building the school and working with the students.
• The spaces are always uplifting and also very tough at times when hearing about some of the things being faced by the children and everyone there. It’s an important way to stay connected and informed and it means everything to the people there to know there are people outside who care, are listening, and want to help.
